SolidDrive Technology

Turning solid surfaces into speakers

Induction Dynamics® SolidDrive® is a powerful hidden sound transducer that transmits acoustical energy through almost any solid surface. The entire surface becomes a speaker delivering high-quality sound with the frequency response of conventional diaphragm speakers. SolidDrive provides a distinct advance for audio systems used in home theater systems, distributed audio, and other high-performance audio applications. SolidDrive works with rigid surfaces that include glass, drywall, granite, metal, wood, ceramics, laminates and composites. Because the SolidDrive utilizes materials already existing
in a room, it is ideal for installed home audio, commercial audio, home theater surround systems, or anywhere an invisible sound source is desired.

How it works

SolidDrive is a patented technology that utilizes very high-power neodymium magnets and dual symmetrically opposed motors to convert audio signals into powerful vibrations that are transferred into solid surfaces by direct contact. High-quality, full-range, hidden sound is then radiated from the entire surface-with a frequency response of 60 Hz to 15 kHz.

Delivering sound to any room with no visible speakers or wiring

Induction Dynamics SolidDrive installs directly behind walls as a true in-wall speaker - turning the entire wall into a sound source. Sound is generated from these large acoustic-radiating surfaces, and the listener becomes immersed in sound. The sound is omni directional at nearly all frequencies while channel separation is maintained.

Producing compact and reliable performance

Efficiency is very important for in-wall applications due to potential heat build up. The SolidDrive answers this need with its ability to generate invisible sound from an entire flat surface with very little power. In fact, the SolidDrive can generate sound from solid surfaces by utilizing less than 50 watts.

The SolidDrive is compact and powerful, allowing it to be used in new applications. The SolidDrive excels when used in conjunction with rigid and semi-rigid surfaces. Traditional limitations such as placement, panel size and flexibility are no longer constraints.

The SolidDrive is thermally protected, so it can also be used in high-output applications with power levels up to 100 watts. The SolidDrive has no moving parts rubbing together that could cause wear or require lubrication. Parts subject to fatigue due to vibrations are fabricated from special non-fatiguing materials. Induction Dynamics SolidDrives come with a 7-year warranty.
